The Cloud 9 Children's Foundation is a non-profit making , independent charitable trust - it is not a subsidiary of the Cloud 9 Screen Entertainment Group.
The charity was established by the Chief Executive Officer of the Cloud 9 Screen Entertainment Group, Mr Raymond Thompson, to support children and families with Asperger's Syndrome. (Mr Thompson's son has Asperger's Syndrome).
Cloud 9 have invested a large amount of time and money in setting up the charity and continue to provide a large amount of assistance in a variety of ways. The Foundation is very grateful for their ongoing support.
The Cloud 9 Children's Foundation provides programs and services that are tailored for children and teenagers with Asperger's Syndrome. However, Asperger's Syndrome is part of the Autistic Spectrum that has a lot of "gray" areas, so therefore we do not exclude those who do not have an official diagnosis of Asperger's Syndrome.
Although Asperger's is an Autistic Spectrum Disorder, it presents itself in a different way to classic Autism. The easiest factor to observe is that those with classic Autism tend to be withdrawn and non-verbal whereas those with Asperger's really want to be accepted and a part of our world. Those with classic Autism can access services that are tailored to them through Autism New Zealand and IHC.
The Cloud 9 Children's Foundation is based in Wellington but provides services around New Zealand.
Wellington Region - The Foundation's programs, such as it's groups and activities, are only held in the Wellington Region.
